South Road Superway

In April 2013 we were awarded the main landscaping contract to undertake over 14,000m2 of concreting, this included the removal of existing paths and driveways, kerbing infills, an exposed aggregate concrete footpath that runs the length of the site as well as excavation and civil works. The scope includes 18 bio retention basins that will filter the storm water as it comes off the road. They are made using waterproof liners and multiple layers of filter sand to clean the water before it is released. There are also new wet lands that include aquatic planting and rock work as well as over 200,000 plants and trees.

Marion Connector Road

In 2008, Built Environs contracted Outside Ideas to landscape the new Connector Road at Hallett Cove. The 25,000-square-metre site included areas which needed imported topsoil and soil stabilisation, but had declines so steep abseiling equipment was required for access. The project included 40,000 plants and trees, soil stabilisation, an irrigation system to some of the planted areas and 2500 cubic meters of mulch. The project was completed in 12 weeks, and with clever choice of plants, the growth over the first summer was tremendous. Outside Ideas maintained the site for 12 months before the client extended the contract. This project was awarded Best Commercial Construction $100,000 – $500,000 by the Landscape Association of South Australia in 2009.

Main North Road Upgrade

This was, at the time, the largest government project Outside Ideas had ever won by public tender. It included service location to the site to either side of the road as well as the reconstruction of Telstra pits and storm water culverts. The existing asphalt was removed and excavation undertaken to 200mm below the proposed finish level. Rubble was brought in and prepared, as was 5000m2 of 70mm thick clay paving, laid on sand. The project also included 70 trees with root barrier. The job presented a challenge in that the site was on a DTEI road, so Outside Ideas submitted significant traffic management plans as part of our tender, and work was only undertaken between the hours of 9am and 4pm.
